Magazine Library: A crowdsourced exhibition
For the exhibition Magazine Library, Facing Pages has tried to incorporate the freedom that lies in making and distributing magazines into the exhibition. Initiators Joost van der Steen and William van Giessen literally gave up their curatorship to explore how the independent magazine network works. They made a selection of 25 magazines that, according to them, shows the broad spectrum of the independent magazine. The editorial staffs of these 25 magazines have in turn selected their own favourites. And the staffs of those favourites have also made their own selections. The exhibition, which is best described as a library, is not only a depot of magazines but also tries to make visible the network behind the magazine world.
